Do you have a closet full of books? If you don’t want or need them, why not turn all of those hard covers and paperbacks into cash? On the website Amazon there are just a few simple steps to sell an old textbook or a not so loved novel from long ago.
First, click Sell on Amazon at the bottom of the main page. Have the book title and description ready, such as paperback, hardback, edition, ISBN number and large or small print. Search by the exact title and description. Add information on the condition of the book (new, slightly used, etc.) and any additional comments valuable to the buyer. Don’t worry about speculating over the value of your books, Amazon offers a list price and lets you know what you are up against.
Ultimately pricing is entirely up to you. You can pitch your prices according to this website list price. Now obviously, to sell there must be a competitive price; no one will spend 10 pounds on your tatty annotated school copy of The Great Gatsby. Cheaper books are placed at the top of the list, so that buyers see those books first, which are more likely to be sold. Additionally, set the shipping method: whether you want to handle shipping personally or have Amazon handle all of customer service extras.
In addition there are several other used book websites where a supplier can put books up for sale: Half, Bookfinder, and Alibris to name but a few. This latter site is specifically interested in rare and out of print books – so don’t throw books away that you think are of no interest or too worn.
Don’t forget that books are not the only product that can sell twice in the used market. DVDs, CDs and even musical instruments can be dusted down, registered in the same way and sold on to a very grateful customer.
